John Ratz second guest speaker. Small group specialist.
What makes a good team?.Answer. A great guy to develop small groups and discipleship group. Grew up in pastor home and lived in hong kong. Loves Chinese food. Went to Syracuse his dad got his masters there. Then moved to kenya africa for four years. Then lived in Canada. The shortest trip was 634 miles. His dad is a missionary. Western Canada attended Bible college. All the moves he has made was a normal transition for him. He has friends all over north america. His toughest move was to Montreal , Canada. It was a french speaking culture. The french is catholic about 97% of the population. Ends up going into the ministry at bright moor cathedral with young married couples and technical staff in 1993. This church was new on the curve with technology and it was a created position. Better to have people sitting in circles then rows and not at the back of heads. The groups teach how to apply scripture to life. The church prior had tried twice , but they failed. The senior pastor was for it. It is a timing thing. He was to put up or shut up. Spent a year preparing for the groups to go into session. He had 120 people on a Friday night to talk about what the groups entailed. They figured if the vision strategy was good they would come out for a Saturday for more info. The people that came were the only ones allowed to be in the groups and for 8 weeks taught them how to do it. After that they told them to find a host home and start people coming to theirs. In five years they had 60% of the Church of 1200 in small groups and knew all the people in the group. Took specific times to see who was in the small groups. Model was inductive Bible studies. They met on Thursday and Sunday nights. He had training hours on Saturdays for two hours how to ask question for their groups. What is the writer saying saying to the audience and what is he saying to us now.If you can get through these question you can lead any groups. The hard part was help fine tuning people to know vision clearly. He learn that he needed coaches to help supervise and teach them. THis was pure small groups inducted at someones home. He never used pastor sermon for topic to teach on at small group. When doing the Bs attitude they did not like that they had one verse. At the end of one month no ran out of time with one Bs attitude. Bensalem he only was hired to handle small groups. If you want to make a call call in the first 24 hours of Monday. A basic phone and prayer and glad you are with us call. If you are new come up after service and get a 5 dollar gift card if new. CLC first day call all leaders. Forty groups there already. A bunch of the leaders did not go to the Church. No common vision or instruction or investing with training the people. In someways it was worst then starting groups because of the lack of vision. Free marketing small groups. Groups are about discipleship and growth. Free market small group is a group of people with common interest would meet together and do there thing. There was no real Bible study , but relationship with people. No real depth to this technique of biblical growth. Neighborhood small group. A group everyone can walk to. Understand culture of the church you are going into. Every church is different. Discipleship has to be one on one. Example is a trainer in the gym with a new client get them on a plan. Teach people to become self feeders. Start off with 8-12 then go to a group of 4-7. Then to 3-4 to hold accountability. Then one on one for mentoring. This will help the believer become a self feeder of the Bible and relationship with God. This what small group ministry is all about. Walking Gods children to a close relationship with him.

Pastor Bob Novak church planter with a thriving young church. from Springfield, PA. 01/18/11 pastorbob@/cfconnect.com
Tonight we had Pastor Bob Novak in from Springfield, Pa. He like Nebraska Cornhuskers for college football and Philly Eagles for pro. The night started off casually with a bit of football talk. The call of God led him here to Pa. His reason for coming out to PA he had a church in Michigan with nights of prayer and fasting. He started having dreams to come to a area. He went to New Jersey for church planting he did not have a good feeling it. So one day he got a letter from Rich Wilkerson and opened and felt a burden to pray for Philadelphia. His wife agreed to go and they went. He planted a church and received a fund that supported him as a missionary to plant a church. Life Christian fellowship in 1993. He has been the lead Pastor for 17 years. He is in a religious community. A catholic community in the midst of what he delt with. He did have a launch team. His family was his launch team. He did kids ministries and had a hard time getting a core group together. He says God will did great things if you dont give up. The first two years were difficult. The family of a small core was amazing for his strength of relationship building with the people. He started to meet at a school gymnasium. It was a challenge him to meet at a local school. He did want to come off pushy to get into a building. For worship he is musically inclined. With vfcc he got a student to help/ Outreaches real wins the greatest success he has had individuals that come meet Jesus in an awesome way and they brought the people to the church. WeServant hood evangelism also worked out. Like offering to fill up the community cars with windshield wiper fluid. Raking leaves doing the kind acts to show Christ love.Invite cards and pens. Christmas is big and Thanksgiving card invites. An outreach that flopped and was stupid. the moon bounce they borrowed broke. Things that helped as a Church to grow. Superbowl in carry. Can good give aways and invite the community to jion raising food for people in need and in return opportunity to talk with people about Church and God. They have a preschool a lot of work but a good tool. Praying with people and help needs and serving them. He has a chapel service once a week. Kids connect with God spiritually. Senior citizen Bible study. A 19 year old started it. Phone call with the kid and he mentors him to work with him and educated him how to answer questions about heaven and hell. A lot of africans live in Philly from war torn nations. Civil wars in african nations have terrible mutilations and rape. His Church supports a Church there to help them with serious problems. Church is different in african. African churches work different they make sure everyone comes to church and will look for people. The church is very cross cultural. Americans are very direct and africans are not direct. If they need something they give there need as information. respect issues are different too for the africans and they are. They are opening up a regimen and have a recording studio and have Bible studies and place to connect the gospel with local people in the community with the youth. Internships invest into there lives instead of then to staff something. A project with vision strategy and team work. Exposing leadership development 7 cores of team work and personality test are taken to see how people are wired to fit them in things to see them succeed.Try to expose the family life of Church. The summer inter is from may to august. With roof over there head and 300 a week for spending. They select interns and can contact them by there website. Discipleship is a culture not a convert class. a relationship with people who has a strong relationship with someone who just got saved and say follow me. The church is involved with many ministries and some are discipled and very family oriented. With a Church plant the context shapes the ministry. The area plays a big percentage. It is a catholic traditional oriented community. Vision for leaders to be culturally relevant and every church is different. Sunday nights consist of worship and pray and leadership building. He has the youngest church in the community. Church structure unique styles in starting churches. They are engaged in missions. Church planters bootcamp. Sectional church plant sectional presbyters Pastor Bob is a presbyter. They are a board that whats you to succeed. Parent affiliated church. This means a church will multiply in different locations but one church. The most exciting to start a Church. The stories of the peoples lives who has been changed. one person says the word of God came alive in me. They have a old parsonage that houses life groups, parties, they also house their interns there. He helps people with drugs recovery too. God loves his us and our children. So he will prepare us for the journey of church planting.
we are our worst enemy. His strength and personality he gets energized by read and being quiet. he was committed to getting meshed with the people. Just listen to people and love them they need that. c

My life story and when Jesus saved the day.
My life story is not that complicated and has been a journey for the most part from the day I got saved to now. I grew up in the Church and my parents are pastors, so I have been in a lot of services through the years and a couple different Churches. Ever since I was young I have vivid memories of Sunday night worship and altar calls. The Holy Spirit definitely introduced himself to me at a young age. Feeling his anointing and presence is some of my early memories. God at starting convicting me when I was 9 and 12 years old to follow him and really make him my savior. I started reading my Bible and from all the Sunday school classes his word is deep in my heart. During my middle school experience I slipped away from following Jesus and wanted to be part of the crowd and be noticed. Drinking was not an issue only once. Also most of the people I hung out with would keep me away from smoking and stuff they did. That was God keeping me clean of that type of a party lifestyle. At the age of 14 life seemed dead and I knew Jesus had to set me free. During the summer I felt like a war was happening inside of me. One Sunday in July would be the turning point that changed my life and only Jesus could only be that turning point. We had a guest speaker, not that it made a difference if I was going to get saved, so as the morning was taking place the wild emotions that I felt like I could not control was taken away. I needed repentance and no sooner as the speaker gave the altar call I flew up as fast as I could. With many tears and my youth pastor behind me God set me free. A release in my spirit took place and peace entered. The rest of the day I spent quiet and pondering what took place. Later that in the month God asked me if I would surrender all of me. I gave my life to God and he set me free, but he wanted me to give my whole life to his service. I said yes to him and never looked back. From that time on my walk with God has increased. Flourishing would be the better term. I love God with all my heart, soul, mind , and strength. Nothing could stop me in my pursuit of giving him my all. Such a peace I have found. He is always there. I love God!

the first day
Coming into class tonight I was not expecting a free copy of Ed Young's, " The Creative Leader". What a steal. I have seen this book and debated on buying it, but patience is virtue, I have it now. The upside is I have to write a book report and talk 8-10 minute presentation on it. Not bad for a traditional textbook that does not seem that relevant for college students to read. I guess someone would have to recognize Ed Young to be excited. I got to see him preach two summers ago and man I left challenged. I love the local Church , but he put the heat up for the local Church going. We a ll need that heat. Jesus came to set us free from the law , and in the book of Galatians Paul the writer gets upset with the Church because of they were going back to their old ways and got stuck and did not stand firm in the Lord. So I am definitely looking forward to this read. This class seems to be really helpful and constructive for going into the ministry.
